Our ex-officio President, Lynn Price, is coordinating what promises to be a
fun-filled evening with good food and friendship. Lynn has reserved the facility,
and she says that the grounds and clubhouse are beautiful. In the event of
rain, etc., we can move inside for dinner. This sounds like an ideal location for
our summer social, which will be a "pot luck" dinner, with soft drinks and
eating equipment (plates, utensils, napkins) being provided.
Thanks to Lynn's connections with the River Bend facility, there will be
no charge for use of the grounds for our July social.
Notes regarding the July Social:
Admission is an item of prepared food to share. I
f you don't cook, there are several restaurants located at the Wal-Mart
shopping centerwhich is at the entrance to River Bend. Since this social
will be in July, PLEASE use caution when transporting food, especially
anything with mayonnaise, sour cream, milk, etc. as an ingredient.
Unless you are able to maintain a safe, chilly temperature, suggested
that we skip the potato salad....the last thing we want is for someone to
get sick, should there be a problem with unsafe food!
Please e-mail the item of food that you are bringing to Lynn at
lyprice@charter.net by July 8, so that we can avoid everyonebringing the same item. It would be helpful if you transport your food in a disposable or
throw-away container, or clearly mark your name on the bowl, etc. so it
doesn't get separated from its owner.
Also required for admittance is an in-kind donation for WRC or HSCC.
See the "Wish List" for each group posted under "Community Outreach"
so be sure to check for suggested items. Sam's Club has 10# bags of
uncooked rice, clay cat litter, dry dog and cat food and other items that the HSCC
would love to have. Paper towels, toilet tissue, Kleenex, bleach, copy paper
and lots of other such needs would be suitable for either WRC or HSCC.
Remember that "store brands" are great if you buy any items for the
WRC personal pantry. And here's an idea: buy a large pack of paper towels or a
multi-carton bleach, etc. and share it between the two groups.
We will need several volunteers to help with setting up the table, etc. and
clean-up afterward for the July social. If you prefer to do one but not the
other, that's fine. Be thinking about it, though, and we will be sending a
couple of follow-up e-mails to everyone asking for volunteers a little closer
to the time of the social. If everyone does a little, nobody has to do a lot.
As with all our socials, everyone is invited and welcome - members and
non-members. There is no charge to attend the July social, but please don't
come empty-handed. Your potluck item of food and donation for either (or both)
of our two very worthy causes will be required to gain admittance.
HSCC and WRC will provide tax receipts; you just need to write
down your name and contact info (address, phone, e-mail) and the
approximate value of your donation(s) and leave with the
donation. Your receipt will be forwarded to you.
Plans are in the works for door prize(s) for CVPA members who bring at least 2 in-kind donations for our Community Outreach Projects.
At the March social, Jerri (newly-wed) won a $25 gift card to a local
restaurant, with Pam and Judy also taking home prizes. You just never know
who you will see or what might happen at a CVPA social -- unless you attend!
